MAKING CHOICES

Making choices is a huge part of what we do all day. Letting your student make as many choices as possible promotes independence and gives your child some ownership of their daily lives. I believe this is very important for our kids because they do not have a lot of say over their daily activities. Below I listed some examples of choices they could be making in their normal routine at home. We typically use visuals when making choices along with switches at school, however this can be adapted to what is available in your home. Choices can be made with objects, visuals, yes/no apps, or assigning each of your hands a choice. Some students may make this choice through eye gaze, some by pointing, and others with their heads. We typically present choices with two options of responses. EX. What color do you want to wear (blue or red).
